Charbray Cows and Calves sell to $3750/unit
Shepherdson and Boyd reported a yarding of 800 head on Friday 7th of January 2022. The market kicked the year off extremely strong. Backgrounder cattle, trade feeder, replacement breeders and cows and calves all remained unchanged on last years exceptional market. The export feeder job did show some signs of weakening with all buyers in attendance, due to some uncertainty with processors weekly kill numbers.
Geoffrey and Leanne Hartwig of Eidsvold sold an outstanding line of 92 Angus, Hereford and Droughtmaster x steers with pens topping at $2710, $2700, $2650 & $2600/head. I & L Paroz of Mutdapilly sold a quality line of feeder steers 20-24mths topping at $2680/head. M & A Gray of Nanango sold a pen of Limo x feeder steers 24mths for $2600/head. Jason and Kim Harvey of Toogoolawah sold a pen of Santa backgrounder steers 16-18mths for $2100/head. Barnes Grazing of Anduramba sold quality Santa x Backgrounder steers for $2050/head. Peter Simpson of Commissioners Flat sold pens of Charolais x backgrounder steers 14mths for $2010, $2000 & $2000/head.
Paradise Grazing of Nanango sold quality Charbray weaners steers 6-8mths old $2070/head. Jeremy Russell of Toogoolawah sold a quality pen of Droughtmaster x steers 12 months old for $2020/head. Bernie Witham of Esk sold Droughtmaster weaner steers for $2000/head. P & F Eggleston of Toogoolawah sold Droughtmaster weaners 6-8mths for $1890/head. F & S Stretton of Blackbutt sold a quality pen of Charolais x steer calves 5-6mths old for $1810/head.
A quality line of 80 Red Brahman, unjoined, replacement breeders came to hand and sold to strong competition. The line of heifers topped at $2800/head and averaged just over $2600/head for the entire draft. M & S Symes of Thangool sold a quality line of Santa E.U accredited heifers 14-16mths old for $2410/head. Triple P Past sold Droughtmaster heifers 20 months old for $2320/head. Paradise Grazing of Nanango sold Charbray weaner heifers, 6-8months for $2010/head. Clint Ardrey of Kingaroy sold Brahman cross feeder heifers for $2000/head. Peter Simpson of Commissioners Flat sold a pen of Droughtmaster weaner heifers 8-10mths old for $1800/head. Tallara Past Co. of Beaudesert sold a pen of quality light, Angus x weaner heifers, 6mths old for $1670/head.
The Cow and Calf market remained strong this week with the lead of the cows and calves topping at $3750/unit for a pen of aged Charbray cows with young Euro x calves at foot account B & A McLoughlin of Gatton. F & S Stretton of Blackbutt sold a quality pen of aged Charolais x calves with young calves at foot for $3700/unit. P & F Eggleston sold 10-year-old Droughtmaster cows with Charolais x calves 4-6 weeks at foot for $3500/unit. Cory Kruger of Toogoolawah sold a pen of Droughtmaster cows with calves at Foot for $3450/head. JR & LA Wendt of Fernvale sold aged Brahman x cows with young Brahman calves at foot for $3300/unit.
